This is not an ad by far but, it might sound like one! I am so pumped to be telling you about Cisco Packet Tracer! What is it?? Packet Tracer is a application that allows users to create network topologies and imitate modern computer networks in a virtual space. You simply simulate the configuration of routers and switches using a simulated command line interface / a drag and drop user interface.

This is not an application that is out there trying to make money. The software is mainly focused towards Cisco Networking Academy students to give them the practice with CCNA concepts without having to go in the field. It took me a sec to find this amazing piece of FREE software (you heard me! FREE!!) but since. It has definitely opened my eyes to a lot of the ins and out of configuring a network. Letting the user fiddle and roleplay with large scale networks at the comfort of their home with no consequences definitely has its benefits.

Not going to make this a long article because honestly the best thing about Packet Tracer is experimenting and figuring things out. Engineers in the field use Packet Tracer to test protocols before implementing them in real life. Its also a great way to test any changes you want to make before actually deploying. You can actually see how the network will respond. Its AMAZING! I think I said that already but, it is and its worth your time if you haven’t already checked it out!

Anyways, hope this tickles ya brain. It does mine! Much love and aloha! Always more on the way so keep on coming back!
